Some sessions feel special before I ever pick up my camera—and Melanie and TJ’s Gulf Shores beach session was one of them.
I first met Melanie and TJ through my last job at Staley Farms Golf Club in Kansas City, where they were members. Over time, Mel and I discovered that we share a love for photography, so having her step out from behind the camera and in front of mine made this evening feel especially meaningful.
When their vacation brought them to the Gulf Coast, we had the perfect opportunity to catch up and document this season of their lives. With birthdays and an anniversary coming soon, the session became a celebration of more than their time at the beach. It was a chance to pause, have fun together, and capture the connection they have built through all the years and milestones in between.
We spent the evening along the shoreline as the sun began to dip behind the Gulf Shores skyline. Melanie and TJ danced in the sand, laughed through the playful prompts, and wrapped themselves up in one another between moments. The warm sun flare gave the photographs a dreamy glow, but their genuine joy is what made the images come alive.
Those are always the moments I love most—the ones that feel less like posing for photographs and more like being fully present with the person you love.
One of the sweetest parts of building my photography business on the Gulf Coast is getting to be a small piece of so many vacations. Families and couples invite me into a place they have chosen for rest, celebration, and time together, and I get to turn a little part of that experience into something they can keep.
This session felt even more special because Melanie and TJ brought a little piece of home with them. It was so good catching up, talking photography with Mel, and celebrating everything they have coming soon.
