# A Surprise Beach Proposal in Gulf Shores | Maddie & Kyler's Sunset Engagement
Some love stories begin long before the proposal.
When Kyler first reached out to me, he had one goal: create the perfect surprise proposal for Maddie during their family's annual vacation to Gulf Shores. What made it even more meaningful was that this wasn't just any beach trip...her family has been vacationing here every single year for the past 22 years. This stretch of sand has become part of their family's story, making it the perfect place to begin a new chapter.
As the sun began to set, friends and family quietly gathered nearby while a romantic setup of candles and roses waited on the beach. Maddie had no idea what was about to happen.
When Kyler got down on one knee, the surprise quickly turned into one of the most emotional moments I've had the privilege of photographing. Tears, laughter, hugs, and the excitement of their closest family members made the evening feel incredibly intimate despite the wide-open beach around them.
After she said "yes," we spent the rest of the evening celebrating with portraits as the Gulf Shores sunset painted the sky in soft shades of pink and gold. There was so much joy, and you could feel just how excited everyone was to celebrate these two.
Sessions like this remind me why I love what I do. Photographing beautiful moments is one thing—but documenting the beginning of a family's next chapter in a place that already holds so many memories is something truly special.
Maddie and Kyler, thank you for trusting me with one of the biggest moments of your lives. Congratulations again! I can't wait to see where this next chapter takes you.
